Best 4 Wheel Suitcases and Luggage: Lightweight Choices

Normally, when I’m travelling through airports I am carrying my backpack as it suits my purpose of flitting from one place to another with my “house” on my back. However, I do still wonder if some of the best 4 wheel suitcases, lightweight and easy to manoeuvre, could suit my purposes just as well.

Thinking about it, they are great to use in structured environments like airports – that is, places where you would expect everyone to have some kind of baggage – but for walking down some narrow and crowded South American or Asian street, I’m not so sure. They could often be more of a hindrance! Sure, if you are just going from taxi to hotel then great, but wandering around in a strange humid place attracting attention is a different matter!

Still, I thought that I would see what I might be missing.

Brands of Lightweight 4 Wheel Suitcases

Undoubtedly one of the most popular brands of 4 wheeled luggage is Aerolite. Their priciest option is the 3 piece 4 wheel luggage set that is “super lightweight”  in black or chocolate with each case having a 360 degree spin-wheel system. I have seen this for sale at £125 – half of the original retail price! Individual suitcases are priced from £25-£59 depending on the size and features.

Another common manufacturer is Karabar (see top of article).  I have seen their Sirocco Cypress Super Lightweight large 28 inch 4 spinner wheels hard suitcase in silver retail for £49.99, discounted from being £120 originally. The smaller version costs £10 less.

Other 4 Wheeled Options

If you are not too bothered about the suitcase being lightweight, there are plenty of other manufacturers. You might consider the Carlton Deuce Medium 4 Wheel Trolley Case in olive for £69.99. If you have money to burn there is always plenty of choice with premium brands like Samsonite, or Antler. For example the Samsonite Cordoba Duo 76cm 4 Wheel Spinner in graphite costs £175 whilst the Delsey Lite Gloss Trolley was originally priced at £300+ (though is often heavily discounted). Finally, don’t forget that special kids 4 wheel suitcases are manufactured by Trunki in all sorts of fun themes. Consider the Harley the Ladybug Ride-on suitcase with its cute red body and black spots!

Final Word

Like most things there is a large range in the prices of 4 wheel suitcases. Fortunately, there is a lot of competition and prices are regularly heavily discounted – at least online. I guess that your choice will depend on the level of protection that you want to give to the items inside. The premium cases aren’t necessarily lightweight, so you are not paying for that particular aspect. Overall though, if you can get a a 4 wheel suitcase that is lightweight then you surely own one of the msot convenient and easy to transport modes of this traditional way of carrying your stuff.
